Adam Lambert knows “American Idol” inside and out. He first stepped into the music spotlight as the runner-up on an early season of the show. Recently, he shared his thoughts on who should take over Katy Perry’s spot at the judges’ table.
“I think LeAnn Rimes would be great,” Lambert said during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.” He added, “I just worked with LeAnn Rimes in Australia on ‘The Voice,’ and she’s so lovely, down to earth, very spiritual and deep, but with a great sense of humor. I think she’d be good on the show.”
LeAnn Rimes has been a country music superstar for decades, starting with her hit “Blue,” a cover of a Bill Mack song, in 1996 when she was just 13. She’s been consistently releasing music ever since, with her latest album, “God’s Work,” coming out in 2022. Rimes’ representatives did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
Lambert, who competed on “American Idol” in its eighth season in 2009, finished as the runner-up to Kris Allen. Despite not winning, he’s built a successful music career. In February, after seven seasons as a judge, Katy Perry announced her departure from the show.
“I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for ‘Idol,’” Perry said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” She expressed her love for the show but felt it was time to explore new opportunities.
She hadn’t informed fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan beforehand, suggesting they would find out with everyone else. Perry mentioned having exciting plans for the year, hinting at a new direction for herself.
In April, Luke Bryan commented on Perry’s announcement on “Taste of Country Nights” radio show, saying he wasn’t entirely surprised as he had heard rumors about her leaving. He spoke fondly of their friendship and the time they spent working together, especially recalling how he was there before Perry’s daughter was born.
Perry herself suggested Jelly Roll as a potential replacement, praising his charismatic appearance on the show. She joked about how convincing he was and how he could sell her anything.
Kelly Clarkson, the original “American Idol” champion, also addressed rumors about joining the judging panel, firmly saying no due to her promise to spend more time with her kids, which is why she left “The Voice.”
